The Grosvenor Art Society is Chester’s largest Art Society and plays an active role in promoting the visual Arts in and around the City of Chester.
The Society currently has very nearly 300 members, covering a range of abilities from beginners to professional Artists and representing a wide range of styles and media.
The Society was formed at a meeting held in the School of Art Chester, on March 5th 1949 The first General meeting was held on Saturday 28th May 1949 and the first Exhibition was held during the Summer of 1950.
Today, the Society holds two Exhibitions annually in the Spring and Autumn at Upton-by-Chester Golf Club. Pleasure painting days are held fortnightly on Tuesdays from September to June in the Ballroom at the Golf Club.
The Society also meets monthly from September to April for demonstrations and workshops by professional artists, held on the 3rd Saturday at the Catholic High School , Handbridge.
The Grosvenor produces a very informative Newsletter distributed three times a year. Our membership is currently £16 per annum and we welcome new members to join this active and progressive Society. The Spring Exhibition at Upton-by-Chester Golf Club begins Saturday 16th April and continues ’til Sunday 24th April. Parking and admission is Free. Opening hours are from 10am to 7pm each day.
The Autumn exhibition at the golf club will be open to the public from 8th to 16th October.
